The "Running Your Own Show" module is an introductory level module that can be used as a means of achieving a number of different learning objectives. For the module as integrated into the first year core Transferable Skills module in the Department of Electronics at the University of York the learning objectives are:
- To introduce students to the process of producing a business plan for a new business
- To enable students to make an informed decision as to the most appropriate form of business they need to establish
- To provide students with the basic financial and marketing tools to enable them to research their business idea and quantify their findings
- To enable students to produce and present a comprehensive business plan
