MA TESOL

Did you have any initial concerns about studying education before you attended, did they go once you started?

I was concerned that I would lack of some background knowledge in the area of my study and it could result in not being able to keep up with tutors and classmates. Moreover, I was also worried about my limited critical thinking skill. However, all the concerns were gone after I went to the first class and had supervision meetings.

Which modules are you currently studying / have studied and which have been your favourites on the course and why?

My favourite modules are Research Methods, TESOL methods and Cross-Cultural Perspectives on Language & Discourse. Research Methods is such a great guideline for me who had never done any research before.

I liked Cross-Cultural Perspectives on Language & Discourse because I learned many cultural differences in languages that used to go unnoticed by me. The small discussions we had in class every week were intriguing.

Which aspect of teaching on your course do you find the most useful for learning?

For TESOL Methods, I found seminar sections very enjoyable since I could exchange knowledge and experiences with my friends from other countries.

I think I have learned a lot from my friends. The atmosphere during seminars was also very good and I was motivated to share my opinions.

If you hadn't completed this degree what skills wouldn't you have developed?

I would like to emphasize critical thinking skill. Even though this skill is being encouraged in Thai education, it was not much encouraged when I was a high school and undergraduate student. Before I started the course here, I had a very vague idea of how to be critical. Participating in this degree has enhanced my critical skill.

What are your plans after your degree?

After I finish my degree, I hope I can work as an English language teacher in a Thai school. I would like to do classroom research to improve teaching quality of teachers and learning
