Social Policy shapes
the way we live

Our programmes reflect the latest thinking in the field of social policy. They draw on ideas from across the social sciences and adopt a critical perspective that looks to both understand what welfare states seek to achieve but to critique them when they fail to deliver.
"Social Policy looks for answers to the question of how best to maximise the well-being of people, drawing on ideas from sociology, political science, geography, demography, economics, management and environmental science..."
Experiences of our courses and career aspirations can be found in the profiles written by our students.
Some of our staff have also written personal profiles detailing what motivates them to study their subject.
