Graduate Studentships 2008

Masters Studentships

Three MSc studentships will be available in 2009/2010 (funded by the department). These are fee-waivers that cover the course fees at the Home/EU rate. You should however budget for 12 months living expenses (and additional fees if you are an overseas student). The studentships are available for students on the Cognitive Neuroscience (CN MSc), Reading, Language and Cognition (RLC MSc) and Masters of Research (MRes) courses. All applicants will be considered for these studentships. No separate application is required. A decision is normally made in June. In addition, all of the taught Masters programmes (except for the MSc in Forensic Psychology Studies) have recognition from the ESRC for four year (1+3) PhD studentships.

MPhil/PhD by Research

Six fully-funded studentships are available to PhD applicants in any area of research covered by our faculty. We have five research council quota studentships (funded by BBSRC and ESRC), which pay Home/EU fees and also provide a stipend of approximately £12,000+/year to cover living expenses. These studentships are restricted to students with UK residency. Four of these studentships last for three years and one lasts for up to four years, including a year of MSc study (1+3).

One studentship (funded by University of York) lasts for three years and is open to all. This will offset home/EU fees and carries a further stipend. Overseas candidates are encouraged to apply.

The deadline for applications for these studentships is on the 2nd March. We meet to decide who should receive the studentships before the end of March and all students nominated for the awards should be interviewed before this meeting.

Funding is also available for two specific PhD projects:

Students interested in these studentships should contact the supervisors listed above in the first instance.

It is typically the case that access to this research programme is predicated on obtaining a First class or Upper Second class degree.
