The main teaching goal of the Department is the development of interdisciplinary courses in the economics and management of the environment. The Department currently supports three undergraduate degrees: the BSc in Environmental Economics and Environmental Management, the BSc in Environmental Science and a third undergraduate degree, the BSc in Environmental Geography.

Interested in how the earth functions and the damage we are doing to the planet?  Want to know what sustainable management options exist?  This programme will provide you with the knowledge and practical skills to develop your understanding of:-

Energy - nuclear fuel, fossil fuel, and alternative energy supplies

From the first week you will be working with other students to analyse environment issues in depth.  The course will expand your scientific knowledge, laboratory, analytical and reporting skills and develop key transferable skills in IT and decision making.  The flexibility of our programme allows you to specialise in an area of your own particular interest in your final year.

Population growth, poverty and globalisation stress the Earth's environmental systems and resources.  This programme will give you the knowledge and skills to understand:-

Sustainable management of fisheries, forests, water, minerals and oil

Regulation of land, water and air pollution

'Green' accounting, environmental assessment and corporate responsibility

With an overall focus on the human elements in environmental and ecological systems, this course will ensure you are equipped to help make a difference environmentally, now and in the future.  This three year course does not just train you in the environmental, biological and economic sciences, it trains you in the integration of the concepts and methods of these three disciplines.  In this, it is unique.

Understanding the integration of physical and environmental geography has never been more important than it is today.  This programme will develop your skills and knowledge to understand:-

Environmental and human consequences of global warming

Tectonics, tsunamis, mudslides and volcanoes

Population impact on natural environmental resources

bullet

Climate impact on biodiversity conservation

Our inter-disciplinary approach is key to understanding the potentially catastrophic environmental problems facing the world.  This degree is taught by staff experienced in the application of concepts of environmental geography to policy formulation and the environmental management at both national and international level.
