Conservation of whale sharks 

& fish spawning aggregations in Belize

 

 

The Darwin Initiative project Conservation of whale sharks and fish spawning aggregations in Belize aims elucidate the natural history of the whale sharks and associated spawning aggregations in Belize while promoting their conservation.  This three-year project began in spring 2000 and is led by the University of York (UK).  The  project represents a collaboration between the University of York, local fishermen, tour & dive guides, representatives from the Belize Department of Fisheries, Coastal Zone Management Authority, the non-governmental organisations Friends of Nature (FON), Belize Audubon Society, GreenReef, the Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE), and the University of Belize.
