Anglo-Saxon and Viking Yorkshire
The Anglo-Saxon and Viking Yorkshire Project is a successor to the York
Environs Project hosted within the Archaeology Department at York
University. It is directed by Dr Julian
Richards. As part of its work the project has been investigating the
site at Cottam, an Anglian and Anglo-Scandinavian settlement in the
Yorkshire Wolds.
Cottam was discovered by metal-detector users in 1987,
and we have so far carried out three seasons of excavation:
