For as long as the piano has existed, composers have used techniques now more readily associated with contemporary music, as Luk Vaes shows in this programme embracing three centuries of keyboard music.   Bypassing some famous composers in favour of unjustly forgotten masterpieces to concentrate on beautiful music, he plays on his own, specially prepared, piano as well as more conventional instruments.   Based in Ghent, Luk Vaes studied in Germany and the USA, winning several international competitions.  He is now on the faculties of the Orpheus Institute and the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.

We are offering a special Piano Explore ticket for the double-bill of this concert and the concert by Alex Wilson on Friday 8 February which featues music by twentieth-century US composers.  Piano Explore tickets are £16 (concessions £12).  Please contact the Box Office direct to purchase these (01904 322439; boxoffice@york.ac.uk)
