Kathryn Tickell is the foremost exponent of the Northumbrian pipes, and a supreme musician whose work is deeply rooted in the landscape of Northumbria and its people. This enchanting show is based on interviews and recordings made by Kathryn over the years with family members and the shepherd musicians from whom she learnt, including mouth organ player Will Atkinson and fiddler Willie Taylor. Three generations of musicians take part in this reflection of immensely strong communities, their music and collective stories. Directed by Kathryn Tickell and Annie Rigby (Unfolding Theatre).
‘History, ecology, music myth… the local and the universal. This is beautiful and important work.’ David Almond, author
