Nicholas Daniel was awarded the 2011 Queen’s Medal for Music in recognition of his contribution to music in the UK. Well-known as an exceptional oboist and a first-class chamber musician, he established the Britten Oboe Quartet with fellow principals of the Britten Sinfonia. They bring their warm, expressive playing to the exploration of lesser-known repertoire as well as standard classics such as the Mozart quartet. Here, the programme opens with Elgar’s early, unfinished quartet and includes a rare opportunity for the cor anglais to shine as a solo instrument.
