Visual identity and branding

The University's visual identity must be used in all University publications and websites.

The University has a standard template for web pages. This is available as part of the Web CMS and for use with Dreamweaver. See how can I gain access to the University's web template? for further information. Pages which use this template comply with the University's visual identity.

If you need to refresh your department's web design before your department can be included in the Web CMS, please contact the Web Office who can provide help and advice on how this can be achieved.

The following points should be taken into account:

  • Departments should not create departmental logos or images;
  • the user's needs are important: the Web is an information and marketing tool so ease of reading and access, and a site which is pleasing to the eye, are crucially important.

For visual impact, which is particularly important on home pages, text should be kept to a minimum.

The Web Office offers advice and help on authoring web pages.

Exceptions

All departments must use the visual identity, except University-owned companies such as the Science Park which should clearly display the University logo. They should ensure that the relationship with the University is clear and prominent.

Images

The Communications Office has an image library and can help with commissioning photoshoots.
