How IT Services and the Web Office work together
IT Services and the Web Office work in partnership to advance the development of the University of York's website through:
- Establishing and implementing policy in consultation with forums and committees
- Offering training and support
- Providing a technical infrastructure
Role of IT Services
IT Services aims to meet the IT requirements of staff and students. Central to this aim is the provision of web site hosting facilities including http://www.york.ac.uk/, web development tools, and training and advice for web site developers.
Role of the Web Office
The Web Office looks after authoring in the Web CMS and also manages phased implementation of the software as part of the Web Redevelopment Project. If you have a query about the Web CMS, please contact the Web Office.
The Web Office has three fundamental aims:
- Developing and implementing strategic plans for the University of York website in the core areas of internal communications, external marketing and teaching materials for students.
- Identifying new developments in web technology that may be of benefit to the University.
- Working with and supporting staff throughout the University to ensure consistency of information and the efficient operation of the web site.
The Web Office forms part of the Communications Office, which promotes all aspects of University activity to a range of different audiences.
Complaints
- Any complaint about web content served from the .york.ac.uk domain is notified to the Web Office.
- The Web Office assesses the complaint and if it decides that material should be made inaccessible it will take the appropriate action. This may require the assistance of IT Services - eg where a University of York web account needs to be disabled or a server needs to be made inaccessible.
- In an emergency, if the Web Office is not immediately contactable, IT Services will take appropriate action.
