About Active Arts

Active Arts, based in Wentworth College, has supported students, staff and members of the University in the production of artwork for over thirty years. Through the provision of studio space, equipment, materials and tutorial support members have acquired practical skills in ceramics, printmaking, life drawing and painting. Interest and ability vary enormously from beginners learning basic principals and techniques to those using the facilities to support work towards formal qualifications and exhibition. The number of members continues to grow and represents a cross section of the University community.

There are three permanent studios, printmaking, painting and ceramics, for use 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Basic materials and equipment are provided and there are demonstrations and workshops to show members how to use the facilities and processes available.

The membership body is a complex mix of abilities and, as such, demonstrations, classes and courses are designed to provide absolute newcomers with the skills and knowledge to make work confidently and safely. At the same time, flexible drop-in workshops accommodate individual plans for members who wish to develop existing skills and knowledge further. Courses and workshops run weekly at set times throughout term and occasional trips and excursion are also scheduled.

Exhibitions

Towards the end of each year Active Arts holds an annual exhibition of members' work and anyone can submit work if they wish. Details are circulated at the beginning of the Summer Term.
