Studio flat details

Each studio flat has an open plan with distinct areas for sleeping, studying, cooking/dining, a living room area and an en-suite shower room.

Sleeping, storage & studying facilities

• a double bed, mattress and mattress protector including drawer storage
• two bedside cabinets
• a wardrobe with mirror, clothes rail and shelving
• a desk, study chair, a 3-drawer unit, a waste bin, shelving and a pin board
• a network socket

The en-suite shower pods are fully tiled and contain:

• a toilet
• a wash hand basin
• a shower & shower curtain
• a small mirrored storage cabinet

General living facilities

• a two-seater sofa
• a coffee table
• a TV and video stand plus a TV aerial socket and adjacent power sockets
• a kitchen & dining area (see kitchen tab for more details)

Use of television in your room

If you use a television in your room, you will need to purchase a Television Licence as this is not provided by the University.  There is no guarantee that you will be able to get good TV reception.

Kitchen

Each flat contains a distinct dining area with a dining table and two chairs and a distinct kitchen area with easy to clean lino flooring. Facilities provided in the kitchen area are:

• a storage cupboard with dustpan & brush, mop and bucket, a vacuum cleaner and bags
• a base unit with stainless steel sink and single drainer
• a double wall cupboard
• a continuous worktop (with 2 power sockets)
• an oven with 4 hobs & extractor fan/lights
• a microwave
• a fridge and a freezer
• a large waste bin
• a fire blanket & extinguisher with heat/smoke detector

Cleaning

Cleaning

As studio-flats are self contained, they do not come under the cleaning service level agreement and you will be responsible for cleaning your flat and shower pod yourself. Cleaning equipment is provided in your flat.

Recycling

You are responsible for removing all of your rubbish and recycling to the recycling bays and general waste bins outside the block.

Laundry provision

There is a laundry room on-site in the Wentworth College nucleus building. 

To use the machines you need to purchase a card from the machine in James College Reception at the Roger Kirk Centre. Cards cost £5 and you must use the correct change (5 x £1 coins).  Your card will have £3.50 credit to use in the machines which should be enough for your first wash.

1. To add more credit to your card,  you need top up your card online: http://www.circuit.co.uk/ Click on Getting Started and follow the instructions to Create an Account and Top Up your card.
2. When you top up your card, payment is by PayPal (you do not need to have a PayPal account as you can make a payment using a debit or credit card as a PayPal guest)
3. Once you have added more credit to your card you will need to activate the top up using the Top Up Machine next to the laundry machines (instructions are on the machine itself).

Studying space

As well as the general computer room, available to all students, located on the ground floor of the college nucleus building (room W/036), you also have 24 hour access to a Graduate Only study space on the 2nd floor: W/202.

Graduate Common Room

This is located on the ground floor opposite the entrance to The Edge and is open to postgraduates 24 hours a day. The room contains 2 table tennis tables, a table football game, a TV and DVD player and also has a range of DVDs and games.  Controls for the TV and Table tennis bats and balls can be signed out from the porter.

Staff & Graduate Common Room

This common room provides a comfortable and quiet relaxing social space for all postgraduate students, and is open 24 hours a day.

The Wentworth common room is a shared space and is also used as the Staff Common Room.
