Single en-suite study bedroom facilities

Each study bedroom contains:

• a 3ft x 6ft 3inch bed with mattress
• a study work-station with 3 drawer unit and study light & an adjustable swivel chair
• a wardrobe with long mirror and top box storage facility
• bookshelves, a large pin board & a waste bin
• a TV aerial, and internet connection

The en-suite shower pods are fully tiled and contain:

• a toilet
• a wash hand basin
• a shower & shower curtain
• a small mirrored storage cabinet

Use of television in your room

If you use a television in your room, you will need to purchase a Television Licence as this is not provided by the University.  There is no guarantee that you will be able to get good TV reception.

Most blocks are made up of 8 flats, each with 6 bedrooms sharing 1 kitchen.

Each flat kitchen contains:

• 2 fridges, 1 freezer
• 1 oven with 4 hobs
• 1 sink
• 1 kettle
• 1 microwave
• 1 kitchen table/6 chairs
• 2 storage cupboards per student
• 1 vacuum cleaner
• 1 mop, dustpan & brush, ironing board and iron

Kitchen Cleaning

The day of the weekly kitchen clean will be publicised on your kitchen noticeboard. Please check the service level agreement below to see what you should be doing and what is the responsiblity of your cleaners.

If you do not maintain the kitchen to a reasonable standard, the cleaners may not be able to clean the kitchen and the flat will be fined.  We recomend you & your flat mates all sign up to a rota to make sure all the daily tasks are done.  Your tutors will help you with this and provide you with rotas for your noticeboards.

Recycling

Colour coded recycling containers for paper, cardboard, glass, plastic and cans are provided in each kitchen with corresponding bins in the recycling bays outside each block.  Information about what you can and cannot recycle is included in pg 18 of the Wentworth Handbook.

Cleaning in shower pods

You are responsible for cleaning your own room, but shower pods are cleaned once a month. Please check the service level agreement below to see what you should be doing and what is the responsiblity of your cleaners. The date of the monthly clean will be publicised on your notice boards.

Laundry provision

There is a laundry room on-site in the Wentworth College nucleus building. 

To use the machines you need to purchase a card from the machine in James College Reception at the Roger Kirk Centre. Cards cost £5 and you must use the correct change (5 x £1 coins).  Your card will have £3.50 credit to use in the machines which should be enough for your first wash.

1. To add more credit to your card,  you need top up your card online: http://www.circuit.co.uk/ Click on Getting Started and follow the instructions to Create an Account and Top Up your card.
2. When you top up your card, payment is by PayPal (you do not need to have a PayPal account as you can make a payment using a debit or credit card as a PayPal guest)
3. Once you have added more credit to your card you will need to activate the top up using the Top Up Machine next to the laundry machines (instructions are on the machine itself).

Studying space

As well as the general computer room, available to all students, located on the ground floor of the college nucleus building (room W/036), you also have 24 hour access to a Graduate Only study space on the 2nd floor (room W/202).

Graduate Common Room/Games Room (room W/024)

This is located on the ground floor opposite the entrance to The Edge and is open to postgraduates 24 hours a day. The room contains 2 table tennis tables, a table football game, a TV and DVD player and also has a range of DVDs and games.  Controls for the TV and Table tennis bats and balls can be signed out from the porter.

Staff & Graduate Common Room (room W/135)

This common room located on the 1st floor provides a comfortable and quiet relaxing social space for all postgraduate students, and is open 24 hours a day.

The Wentworth common room is a shared space and is also used as the Staff Common Room.

Quiet blocks:

Blocks A1, A2 and D4 are all designated Quiet blocks.

Single gender accommodation:

A limited number of Female Only flats are available for students with strong religous or cultural reasons for requiring single gender accommodation.
