Provost

Provost: Russell Yates

Russell Yates is a Lecturer in the Department of Health Sciences and joined the college in July 2010. His main duties as Provost are to set the overall tone of the college, fostering a sense of community and acting as the final point of call for students with problems and in disciplinary matters.

The Provost works closely with the College Dean, Administrator, and College Tutors.

Deputy Provost

Deputy Provost: Derek Lavin

A senior administrator in the Department of Physics, Derek has been in his role (formerly titled College Dean) since 2002. 

The Deputy Provost has responsibility for the welfare and discipline of student members of the College and is resident in the College in block D2. He deputises for the Provost in his absence.

College Tutors

College Tutors‌

As College Tutors, Lilia, Xin, Evangeline & Mariam are resident in the College and are often the first point of contact for students with any queries or problems whilst studying at York.  Their role is to act as a friendly face, helping new students to settle and making sure all students get the most they can from their time in Wentworth.  All our tutors are available for all of our residents, but to make it easier for you to know who to contact, they have special responsibility for particular blocks/houses as detailed below.

Tutor: Mariam Dar

Mariam is from Pakistan and currently doing her Ph.D in Phonological Development from department of Linguistics.

When she gets some time off from her experiments at the babylab, she likes travelling, going to beaches and reading.

Mariam joined the Wentworth team in September 2012.

Mariam is resident in D3/221 in block D3 and is the Welfare Tutor assigned to Blocks A2, B1 and B2.

Tutor: Xin Kang

‌

Xin is from Sichuan, China and is now a 2nd year PhD student at the Department of Psychology. She has a broad range of interests in languages and arts. When she is not doing research on language processing, she enjoys spending time on music or sports.  Xin joined the Wentworth team in September 2012.

Xin is resident in room C1/201 in block C1 and is the Welfare Tutor assigned to Blocks A1, C1 & C2.

Tutor: Lilia Psalta

Lilia is from Cyprus and following her Msc in York is now going into her 3rd year of a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience. When she is not doing brain scans as part of her research, she enjoys spending time outside, playing sports and practicing meditation. Lilia has been a Tutor at Wentworth since October 2010.

Lilia is resident in room D2/221 in block D2 and is the Welfare Tutor assigned to Blocks D1, D2 & D4.

Tutor: KW Evangeline Tsao

Evangeline is from Taiwan, and is doing her PhD in Women's Studies. She has studied in York for 2 years. She enjoys photography and music. She also likes to travel, read and interact with people in her free time.

Evangeline joined the Wentworth team in September 2012.

Evangeline is resident in room D3/213 in block D3 and is the Welfare Tutor assigned to Block D3 and all four off-campus houses: Catherine House, Constantine House, 54 Walmgate and 65-67 Fulford Road.

Administrator

‎College Administrator: Jacqui Fountain (covering Rachel maternity leave)

Jacqui has worked at the University since August 2010 in Accommodation Services.  Jacqui has joined Wentworth as College Administrator to cover Rachel Mccormack who is on maternity leave.

The College Administrator provides the first point of contact for most students with questions about College life. They have a broad range of responsibilities, including maintaining all College records, liaising with the Accommodation Office and communicating with all College members.

The College Administrator's Office is in room W/131 and if you need to visit her, the best times are between the hours of 10:30-12:00 and 13:30-14:30 Monday-Friday.

Facilities Manager

Jane Whyman

The Facilities Manager is responsible for the fabric and maintenance of the buildings, as well as managing the portering and reception services.  In Wentworth, Jane also acts as the liaison between the College and UPP (who manage the Accommodation in blocks A-D).

Jane also looks after after our three outlying properties: Constantine House, Catherine House and Walmgate.

Our fantastic team of Porters are available in the Wentworth college reception, 24 hours a day and can be contacted on wentworth-reception@york.ac.uk or on extension 3000.
