Wednesday 3 October 2012, 11.00AM to 23.55
James is very proud of its internationally and culturally diverse community, and we want to foster that spirit in our students. To this end representatives from the JCR and the college go the extra mile to make sure students arriving from outside the UK have everything they need at James - International students normally arrive in James a few days earlier than those from the UK, and we like to give those students a chance to get settled in to their new home and meet all the other new Jamesites from all over the world. Alongside the international welcome programme organised by the University, James has a number of things planned just for James students.

Last year all new James students got together for a group photo in the James hoodies they were given by the College.
International students can collect their keys from 2pm onwards on the 3rd October. Our international JCRC student reps will make sure everyone feels at home in the College, no matter where you've come from. They have also organised welcome receptions, first morning breakfast, social evenings in the city with dinner and a ghost walk and a big group photo session (with pizza, some James merchandise and a scavenger hunt). For a full breakdown of the welcome events, from James College and the University orientation programme, please see the timetable: 2012 International welcome (PDF
, 373kb).
Throughout the year we run a series of 'Taste' events which offer the chance to sample some authentic world cuisines and for James students to introduce their own culture and history, the first of these will be at some point during the welcome weeks, and will introduce students to their new home - Yorkshire. There will also be an opportunity to hear about opportunities for studying abroad, particularly in our unique exchange with Morningside College at the Chinese University of Hong Kong - QS ranked 37th in the World.
Our alumni come from all over World, joining James means joining a global community.
