Accommodation

Overview

Overview

James College consists of 13 residential blocks. We have a range of accommodation provision (both new and older-style blocks) and students opting to live in James should remember that the College is far more than its accommodation. The College has both catered blocks and non-catered options, both types of block are well equipped for self-catering and have shared kitchens available to all students.  A Meals in Advance scheme (MAD) is also available for non-catered blocks. Remember that let length and cost of self-catering, as well as the rent pricing, will also affect the annual cost of your room and living costs.

James College is home to around 600 students each year, with 595 rooms for undergraduates. There are 227 standard and 359 ensuite single bedrooms, as well as nine ensuite bedrooms for couples. Contracts are 33 or 39 weeks.

Our residents

Students within the College are drawn from across all University Departments within the University, and are a mix of home and international students. James offers one house for nursing students, this is in D block and houses 16 students.

We offer rooms for HYMS students and couples (please note HYMS students should not apply for a 33 week let as their course continues over the Easter period).  James College can accommodate students with additional requirements and students who need longer beds. There are no designated single sex or quiet areas in James College.

College community

The College has an active Junior Common Room Committee that organises social, sporting, volunteering and recreational activities, as well as a local bar, two JCR areas (including Sky TV and pool table), and with its outdoor barbeques is the coolest place to be on campus during the summer.

James is the closest college to the sports centre and playing field and traditionally has a strong showing in both College and University sport.  All students are encouraged to get involved and to make the College a great place to be.
