The Colleges are an important part of how the University of York as a whole works. They provide students and staff with a home, a place to meet others and a network for social interactions.
Goodricke College is headed by the Provost, Jane Clarbour, with the assistance of a team of staff including a Dean and College Tutors (who can help with academic and welfare issues), Porters, a Facilities Manager and Cleaning Supervisor. Jane is ably supported by the College Administrator, Sarah Hay. Finally a team of students and staff organise social events and provide welfare support through the Junior and Senior Common Rooms.
The College provides you with an important source of help and advice 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on any matter that troubles you. If we don’t have an immediate answer for you, we always know someone who can help. The Colleges work alongside the Academic and University Service Support staff to make your time at the University a happy, successful and memorable time.
All parts of the University are here to support you in achieving your maximum academic potential within a community of like-minded people.
The College, like the academic departments, can help you choose and find the particular blend of skills you wish to acquire while you are part of our community. In addition to your academic studies, you work and live with others and so develop your social skills; you are provided with unique opportunities to engage with sporting and society activities of all shapes and sizes; and there are opportunities to develop your study, enterprise, employability and professional skills.
You are encouraged to take a full and active role in the running of the College through your College committee – do take full advantage of this fantastic opportunity. (It will also be good for your CV!)
