To a large extent, life at University and in the College is what you make it. You are provided with a room to live in, a kitchen to eat and socialise in, communal facilities such as common rooms, open spaces and so on. We want you to have fun and to gain the most you can from your time here. It's also down to you to respect these spaces and keep them nice, and to be considerate to those who may be trying to study close by!
At Goodricke, you'll meet people who will become friends for life. You will be able to try new sports, new activities and new hobbies. At University, these are all easily accessible and don't cost very much, but many of them would be quite expensive in later life!
The College is on the new Heslington East side of campus, around a twenty minute walk from other parts of the University. The Library is located in the centre of the campus so there's no real excuse for not doing some private study. The village shops are located approximately ten minutes' walk away.
On the social side, you will be invited to activities throughout the academic year, organised by the Common Room Committee. Our new grounds are grassed and landscaped to make them appealing for sitting out, so on warmer days you can get some friends together and have a barbecue or picnic.
The resident Provost lives on Heslington West with her family, and she regularly welcomes students to her home and to enjoy garden parties in her lakeside garden during the summer term.
The College supports and arranges a wide range of social activities and events throughout the year, including walks on the beautiful Yorkshire moors and trips to the coast. See our calendar of events for further information.
