For most people, coming to University is a major life change which can bring with it new types of stress, unfamiliar feelings and occasionally unfamiliar behaviours.
The College Welfare Team is here to support you through whatever challenges you face. We are happy to listen, help where we can and if necessary advise you to seek help from specialists who are better qualified than us.
In Derwent College we have two levels of welfare support:
These two teams meet regularly throughout the year to discuss welfare issues, and they should be your first port of call.
We are also well connected with the wide range of support services offered by the University. We might not personally be experts in all aspects of health and welfare, but in general we know someone who is!
A word on confidentiality
We take confidentiality very seriously. If things are said to us in confidence, they stay that way. We’re here to help, not to make things worse by telling people who do not need to know.
And that includes parents. Sorry to those parents who might be reading this, but there are some things, sometimes, that your son or daughter might not want you to find out about – and we are not going to tell you. If they want to tell you, they will do so in their own time!
