The Senior Common Room is a group of staff who use Derwent college facilities to relax and socialise during the day and evening. Membership of the SCR is open to all staff, not just academics.
The SCR provides the opportunity to meet colleagues from other departments and roles within the University and beyond. Associate membership of the SCR is open to York-based alumni and prominient members of the local community. The SCR is run by an elected committee which organises regular supper parties with invited speakers.
The Senior Common Room is a spacious room equipped with comfy chairs and sofas, which is shared by the staff and postgraduate members of the college. There is a large television with Freeview and a dvd player. There is a selection of daily newspapers and weekly magazines in the SCR for members to read.
At lunch time the SCR is used by staff and postgraduates to eat and socialise. You may bring meals up from the Costa Coffee outlet, or bring your own sandwiches.
In the evening the SCR is sometimes booked by the College, SCR or GCR for social events. When not booked the SCR is available for use all staff and postgraduate members of the college.
