Junior Common Room

The Junior Common Room is both a space and a community. All undergraduate members of the college, resident and non-resident, are members of the JCR. An elected committee of 35-40 students manages the affairs of the JCR, organises social and sporting events, and provides welfare support for JCR members.

The JCR as a space is available for use by all JCR members. It has comfy sofas and a TV with Freeview. The JCR has just bought a table football, while the college amenities fund has supplied a Wii. It is open during the day and can be accessed at night with a keycard.

The JCR is regularly used by the JCR Committee, RAG Committee and the Big D committee for meetings, socials and film nights, as well as to prepare decorations and costumes for Big D, Club D and RAG.

The JCR is also used by a number of societies. There is an Old People's coffee morning each week and the UN Association hold their meetings in Derwent JCR. To book the room student societies must complete a YUSU booking form and give 2 weeks notice of the event.

The JCR can also be booked by members of the Derwent for private events. Members of Derwent can book the JCR directly with the College Administrator. The JCR must be left clean and tidy after use.
