Sociability

The large blocks in the main building, without locks between floors, allow students to develop friendships throughout their block. The College is committed to maintaining the blocks relatively open in order to facilitate this sociability.

The sociability within blocks is complemented by the work of the JCRC to bring people from different blocks together. Derwent JCRC organises the most talked about events on campus with the most sought after tickets. 1400 tickets for last year’s Big D sold out in less than 45 minutes.

The JCRC organises a wide range of events, from Club D to quizzes, talent shows and film nights (see JCR Events Archive). These events are not just to entertain you, but also to provide opportunities for you to meet people from different blocks. Do take the opportunity to make friends in other blocks. Visit them in their blocks and get to know their flatmates. Derwent students often develop extensive networks of friends across the college.
