Integration

Derwent promotes the integration of students from different blocks and years. We achieve this through a policy of maintaining freedom of movement for members of the college and through the variety of events organised by the JCRC. JCRC social events and sports teams bring together students from different years as well as residents from different blocks.

Internationalisation is an important priority for the University and the college. This involves promoting a cosmopolitan atmosphere. We hope that all Derwent students will leave with an international network of friends.

We are also keen to promote the integration of staff, students and alumni. In November 2009 we organised a Derwent Day dinner and ceilidh to celebrate the college and its late Provost Ron Weir. We are hoping to make these dinners bringing together staff, students and alumni a regular feature.

Derwent students also organise a summer fair for students and children, Little D, on the afternoon of the last Thursday of the summer term. All staff and children are welcome – entrance free!
