Welcome from the Provost

Welcome to the community of Alcuin College!

This site introduces the College and provides general information about us. In particular, there’s lots of valuable information for new students, whether you’re looking at this site before you join us or after you’ve arrived. We want to make this site as useful as possible, so if you have any comments or ideas, please contact us.

The College will be your home during your time at York, and all its staff are here to help you. If you need help, no matter how trivial it may seem to you, please ask. Our aims at Alcuin College are to support your studies and to help you get maximum enjoyment out of your time at York!

All of us – staff and students – are at the University first and foremost as scholars, but a big part of what we do is realised through social activity, and much of this activity centres on the College. Your time here gives you the chance to forge friendships which in some cases will last a lifetime, and to engage in new and exciting activities.

On this site, you’ll find information on the many facilities offered by Alcuin College. There’s also a brief account of the rules under which our community works. Our community spirit is influenced not only by you, but also by past students and those who will follow you – so please do your best to maintain it.

I hold a variety of social events during the autumn term, when I meet all the new students. If you will be joining us this year, I look forward to meeting you at one of these events. But if I can help at any time, please make contact.

All the Alcuin staff join me in wishing you all the best for a rewarding time here. Enjoy yourself, have fun, and work hard and play hard – that way you can fully benefit from life at the College and at the University of York!
