Fresher's Week 2011

In the first week you arrive, the University runs orientation and social events for students who, like you, have just arrived at York. Each College runs its own events for freshers and we are no exception.

When you first arrive you will be met by members of the College Welfare Team and by a STYC - a Junior Common Room Committee Second or Third Year Contact. Your STYC will come and say hello and invite you to join in College activities. This is all part of the induction programme to help you settle in to your new home. On arrival you will receive a voucher for a free tea/coffe and cookie to use in B.Henry's cafe bar during the weekend, open from 12 noon to 5 pm,.

Saturday - move-in day 1

Campus tours 2.00pm and 4.00pm, meet at the College Reception
'Open Zone' in the JCR (Junior Common Room) from 12.00pm - Welfare Team in attendance all day, drinks and snacks available and TV/console games available to play
7.30pm pm till late, Meet and Greet in B Henry's Bar, accompanied by your STYCs. Free pizza! Wii tournament or movie shown in B.Henrys.

Sunday - move-in day 2

Campus tours 12.00noon, 2.00pm and 3.00pm, meet at the College Reception
'Open Zone' in the JCR from 12.00pm (same arrangement as Saturday's)
from 4.00pm BBQ in quad (blocks F to J) - weather permitting
7.30pm till late, Meet and Greet in B Henry's, 'Beach Party' theme. Brief talk by JCRC welcoming everyone to Alcuin! Q-jumps for Revs distributed.
9.30pm Movie Night in the JCR, free pizza and snacks

Monday

11.00am and 12.00noon Campus tours
1.00pm JCRC Welcome Talk in the Junior Common Room. Outline week's timetable and answer questions
'Open Zone' in the JCR all day
2.00pm York City centre trip
4.00pm Trip to Morrisons Supermarket for food shopping
8.00pm Alcuin Invastion Camo theme - Campus Bar Crawl then into town and 'Tokyo' nightclub, STYCs to accompany
8.00pm alternative - the famous 'Visu-Al Quiz' in the JCR

Tuesday

1.00pm Pub Lunch in Heslington, meet at College Reception (Porter's Lodge)
'Open Zone' in the JCR all day
3.00pm Welfare Meet and Greet, JCR. Cake, coffee and condoms
4.00pm Trip to Morrisons Supermarket for food shopping
6.00pm - Provost Welcome Talk - all Freshers must attend, STYCs to accompany - to Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall -

Introduction to Alcuin College staff and student officers

Tuesday 11th October in the Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall at 6.00 pm.

This talk is COMPULSORY for all resident students as it contains essential fire safety information.

7.30 pm to 9.00pm Al-Quiz with free pizza in the JCR
9.00pm Alcuin Colours bar crawl to 'Salvation'. Wear your Alcuin Freshers' T-shirts!
9.00pm alternative - Movie Night in the JCR

Wednesday

12 Noon onwards - RAG brunch in the JCR, movies shwoing throughout the afternoon
7.30pm till late, Hog Roast (tbc) and Sports Night social - don your sports kit! All welcome.
Sports taster sessions all day
Aerobics Society taster session (time tbc)

Thursday

2.00pm York City Centre Trip
'Open Zone' in the JCR
9.00pm 'til late, Pre-Historical! B.Henry's Bar
8.00pm alternaive, TV series night in the JCR

Friday

1.00pm Sports Day vs. Goodricke College, Heslington Green
8pm 'Grub Crawl' in town. Meet at the College Reception

Saturday

YUSU Freshers Fair, YUSU Comedy Night

Sunday

1.00pm Sunday Pub Lunch,
