Arrival information

As a College we now have nearly 550 resident students.  This naturally presents some challenges with your arrival so each year we try to help manage the weekend. 

If you are arriving by car you will need some time to register, collect your keys, unload your vehicle and transfer your possessions to your room. We will have staff in the vicinity of the College to help manage parking and there will be student helpers around to make your arrival smoother. You can help us in two ways:

  • Firstly, arrive during your designated arrival time period, as shown below.
  • Secondly, unload as swiftly as you can and to move your car to an adjacent car park where your vehicle can be left for longer without affecting your fellow students, who also want to unload.
When you first arrive you will be met by members of the College Welfare Team and by a STYC - a Junior Common Room Committee Second or Third Year Contact. Your STYC will come and say hello and invite you to join in College activities. This is all part of the induction programme to help you settle in to your new home.
Saturday 1st October
Postgraduate arrivals. There is a welcome reception hosted by the Provost on Thursday 6th October at 7.00pm in the SCR. 
Wednesday 5th October
International student arrivals, and the transfer of new HYMS students from temporary rooms into their allocated rooms.
Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th October
Main Arrivals weekend for the remaining undergraduate students.
Saturday 8th October
Blocks G, H & J1  Please collect your keys from Alcuin College Reception - 11.00 am to 6.00 pm
 Blocks K, L & M
Please collect your keys from a Temporary Reception at the HYMS Building Foyer – 11.00 am to 4.00 pm, from the main Reception if you arrive later than 4pm
(Note: Though accommodation is charged from Sunday 10th, there is no extra charge for arriving one night early for residents in blocks G, H, J, K, L & M).
Sunday 9th October
Blocks E and F Please collect your keys from Alcuin College Reception – 11.00 am to 6.00 pm
Blocks N, P and Q

Please collect your keys from a Temporary Reception at the HYMS Building Foyer – 11.00 am to 4.00 pm, from the main Reception if you arrive later than 4pm

Note: The HYMS Building is the Hull-York Medical School and is the building adjacent to Alcuin College.

  • Key collection from a temporary reception at the HYMS building foyer.
  • Please park in Campus North car park
    From University Road take the exit from the roundabout marked ‘Siwards Way’
Blocks E, F, G, H and J
  • Key collection from Alcuin main reception
  • Please use the car parking spaces near to reception: 
    From University Road take the exit from the roundabout near to Heslington Hall marked ‘Alcuin Way’ (turn left just before you reach the Science Park)
