Shared facilities in each block

Types of let

33-weeks:

Blocks K, L, M, N and P

Block N is designated a ‘quiet' requested block.

Students are required to clear their rooms completely at the end of the Spring Term, including kitchen belongings, for the five-week Easter vacation. Rooms will be occupied by conference guests. The only facility for storage is a cupboard at the top of the wardrobe provided it is locked or secured – see arrangements for this within the block descriptions below. Underbed storage is not permitted.

38-weeks

Blocks E, F, G, H and J1  (for the year 2011/12, to be reviewed again for 2012/13)

Block F is designated a 'quiet' requested block

Students occupy the rooms (and pay the rent accordingly) during the Easter vacation.

51-weeks

For postgraduate students and continuing undergraduate students.

HYMS students

HYMS students should not select a 33 week let as their course continues through part of the Easter vacation and the University cannot guarantee accommodation over the Easter period.

Single gender accommodation

In accommodation designated as single-gender only, restrictions apply to overnight visitors of the opposite sex between the hours of midnight and 10.00am the following morning. This means at all other times residents are entitled to invite guests of the opposite sex in to their accommodation.

The University of York strives to create a vibrant and diverse community and we encourage students to negotiate with one another to ensure a comfortable living environment for all.

There is one flat, Block J1 Flat 6, for female single-gender undergraduates and one flat for male single-gender undergraduates.

Quiet areas

Two blocks are designated ‘quiet' requested:  Blocks F and N.

In quiet areas, residents are particularly expected to ensure that noise from music and television is kept to an absolute minimum, doors are kept closed and corridors are kept quiet. Care must be taken not to make undue noise in kitchens.

Long beds

Beds are 6'3" (1m 91cm) in general but in blocks K,L,M,N,P and Q the beds are 6'6" (2m) in length.
