Common Room events

For undergraduate students

The JCR activities are organised in B.Henry’s bar every Tuesday night (for Al-Quiz) and Friday night (a music event, such as Alcuin Amplify). Additional events include visits into York, trips to Leeds for shopping and to the east coast Scarborough seaside resort, block parties in the JCR, movie nights, welfare events, a Christmas and a Summer Ball, plus of course sports and voluntary events. Please check out the JCRC website for more details.

The Provost looks forward to meeting all new student arrivals in the autumn term and in addition to his Welcome Talk on 13th October  invites are sent to students in groups of 30 to attend a social gathering in Café Barista.  The welfare team and JCR members are also invited and with the Provost’s hospitality extending to providing free drinks and pizza, these evenings are hugely enjoyable and successful in introducing freshers into the College social and welfare community.

For postgraduate students

The postgrads meet up in their College common room (the GCR/SCR) regularly for a pizza night, organised by the Chair of the GCR, and they are included in all the activities organised by the GSA.

For staff

There is an active SCR Committee which plans and organises a series of events throughout the year and welcomes any new members who may be interested in joining in. Recent events include a wine tasting, quiz night, walks in the local countryside, private viewings of historic houses – for the latest information please check the SCR events web page.
