Finding Funding

A key role of the Research Support Office within the department is to connect specific academics with funding opportunities – particularly calls for proposals which may have been overlooked. We have a good overview of the specific research going on in each group (or centre of excellence), and this enables us to give much more focused, scientifically relevant advice than the Research Support Office at University level. We also place general information on the Research Support Office Bulletin Board and the VLE.

Departmental Research Support

The Departmental Research Support Office (RSO) is here to help you with will all aspects concerning research grant applications. The Research Support Director is Professor Ian Fairlamb (email: ian.fairlamb@york.ac.uk).  Guidance on specific funding calls and queries concerning scientific aspects should be directed to Professsor Fairlamb.   Other requests (administrative queries and grant costings) should be directed to RSO email address (chem-research@york.ac.uk).

Sources of Funding

There are a variety of funding sources available.  Colleagues are particularly encouraged to apply for resarch council funding and EU funding (FP VII, fellowships, networks etc.).  There is significant support to help assist the application process, both within the Department and within the Centre.

Application process

There is a formal notification process within the Department of Chemistry for any research grant submitted to research councils, the EU (ERC, Marie Curie etc.), charities and industry.  Further information can be found on the Departmental Research Support page and Grant submission flow diagram (PDF , 277kb)

Costings

All grants should be costed using pFACT.
