Thursday 5 February 2015, 2.00PM to 3.15pm
Speaker(s): Anita Charlesworth, Chief Economist, The Health Foundation
Abstract: Over the current Parliament the health service has been protected from the full impact of the Government’s fiscal tightening, despite this the NHS is struggling financially and in December 2014 received additional funding for 2014/15 and 2015/16. This Winter’s A&E problems show that the service is under strain. All political parties are committed to reducing the fiscal deficit but also sustaining the health service. Balancing these 2 priorities will be a key challenge for whoever wins the next election. In this talk Anita Charlesworth will present the results of projections for NHS funding. Show how research can inform policy debate and consider the implications of the funding position for economic research. The presentation will include the results of work carried out at the Health Foundation but also how that research draws on research conducted by academics at York on productivity and health care costs.
Location: ARRC Auditorium A/RC/014
