Technology assessments for NICE

Overview

Overview

This is a five-year programme, in collaboration with the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination at York, to undertake a series of Technology Assessment Reviews each year for the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence's Technology Assessment Programme. This involves the critical review of published economic evaluations and the development of decision analytic cost-effectiveness models based on the synthesis of available evidence. In addition, the TEEHTA-CRD collaboration also forms one of the Evidence Review Groups for NICE Single Technology Assessments.

In addition, TEEHTA is part of the NICE Decision Support Unit, a collaborative group which also invloves colleagues at the Universities of Sheffield and Leicester.

Economic evaluation comparing alternative schedules for whole breast radiotherapy in patients with early breast cancer (Fast-Forward)

  • Contacts: Susan Griffin, Mark Sculpher
  • Summary:
    • A 15-fraction schedule following surgical resection of primary tumour in women with early breast cancer is now the UK standard recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), but it is unlikely to represent the useful limits of hypofractionation for whole breast radiotherapy.  This is an economic evaluation alongside a clinical trial that aims to identify a 5-fraction schedule of curative radiotherapy delivered in once-daily fractions, that is at least as effective and safe as the current UK standard 15-fraction regimen after primary surgery for early breast cancer, in terms of local tumour control, adverse effects, quality of life and health economic consequences.
