Specialist programmes designed for universities have been run by the Centre for English Language Teaching for over fifteen years.

We welcome enquiries from universities looking for partnership projects to develop the skills of their students or staff.

For students

Our intensive programmes, which can be from one to sixteen weeks long, can include English language proficiency development, culture, communication, management, university experience and teacher development. We collaborate with York Award, CETLE, the York Management School and other University of York departments to provide innovative programmes to meet our partner universities’ specialist requirements. Study trips and visits to places of local and national interest as well as community projects can also be arranged. We also integrate students with the York student body when possible.

For staff

We run programmes aimed at developing university staff members’ communication skills so that they can operate more effectively in an internationalised environment. Programmes for teachers enable participants to develop both teaching and materials writing skills.

We always aim to have a flexible approach to providing programmes and are able to fit in with your requirements and time preferences.

Please contact us for further details. We look forward to working with you.

Participants on all programmes are assessed and University of York certificates are awarded on successful completion. Grades can be used as a basis for the award of credits by partner universities. Please contact us for further details and other possible options.

About York

About York

The City

York is a beautiful city with fast rail links to both London and Edinburgh. Small, safe and easy to get to know, it has a wealth of historic and cultural attractions. It provides a perfect environment for a pleasurable and productive study experience. Our lakeside campus with restaurants, bars and sports facilities is only minutes away from the city centre with all its attractions of cinemas, theatres, concerts, museums, galleries and nightlife. There is easy access to the countryside and the coast, and plenty of opportunities for walking, hiking and other outdoor pursuits.

The University of York

York is a top UK university and one of the top 100 universities world-wide. The University of York presently has around 13,000 students in over 30 academic departments and research centres across two campuses. York has always been highly rated for the standards of its teaching and world-leading research and in 2010 it was voted University of the Year at the Times Higher Education awards.

Accommodation

Accommodation

We can arrange accommodation with carefully selected host families or in student rooms on campus.

The host family accommodation is an opportunity for students to experience life as part of a British family at first hand, as well as being an ideal way of improving their communication skills in English.

Campus accommodation, which can be good value and convenient for students, is available in vacation periods.

We can also arrange hotel or bed and breakfast accommodation in the city centre or on campus for members of staff.
