The University of York is developing a novel, visual-field testing device (perimeter) aimed at testing small children. Visual deficits presented as field loss are a strong indicator for the presence of brain tumours, and detection of field loss therefore enables early intervention to prevent blindness or death. No equivalent product is yet available on the market, and early tests conducted on the prototype device are very promising.
The prototype low-cost perimeter consists of a PC, clinician’s screen, large patient screen, webcam and peripherals, and software. The system has been given the working title 'KidzEyez’.
Early diagnosis of potential brain tumours in young children
KidzEyez is undergoing commercialisation activities, and user testing. Once this is completed, engagement with manufacturers and licencees will be sought
KidzEyez is subject to patent
