A team within the Engineering Management Research Group in the Department of Electronics at York have developed a unique web-based tool that enables individuals and organisations to significantly improve their management and development of skills. The tool, “Skills Forge”, is based on a powerful and flexible competence management engine, designed over the course of more than a decade of academic research.
The current version of the tool is targeted at postgraduate students in universities and supports active management of their research and general skills development based on a national skills framework. The tool also supports the academics who supervise them, reduces administrative burden and supports statutory reporting to funding bodies and government.
In addition to being used within the University of York, Skills Forge is deployed at several other universities across the UK, including Kings College London and Aberdeen.
Skills and competency management in any organisational setting
Skills Forge is available for demonstration and sale. It is intended that it will spin out during 2010. Discussions with interested investors or partners looking to deploy are welcome.
The Skills Forge package is backed by significant know how and skills within the Department of Electronics
