Funding

Several sources of funding are available to support applicants to our Masters programmes. Information on funding sources specific to individual Masters programmes can be found on the Funding tabs on each Masters programme home page. In addition, the following funding programmes also offer support to Masters applicants:

Department of Biology (York) Graduate Bursaries

  • Awards of £1000 per annum awards towards the costs of student tuition fees and living expenses
  • Awarded on a competitive basis to self-financing postgraduate applicants

British Chevening scholarships

  • Funded by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office
  • Covers all or part of tuition fees and living costs
  • Selection is made by British Embassies in the applicants home country: contact them directly

Overseas Student Scholarships

  • Available on a competitive basis, taking into account academic ability and financial need
  • Annual value is one-third or one-sixth of the appropriate tuition fee. Remaining costs must be covered by other funds and/or scholarships
  • Closing date for applications is May 1 2011 (candidates should apply as early as possible)

Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan

  • Available on a competitive basis to residents of Commonwealth countries
  • Covers tuition fees at the overseas student rate and living allowance for 3 years

British Marshall Scholarships for USA citizens

  • Funds young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the United Kingdom
  • Open only to United States citizens who (at the time they take up their Scholarship) hold a first degree from an accredited four-year college or university in the United States with a minimum GPA of 3.7.
  • To qualify for awards tenable from October 2011, candidates must have graduated from their undergraduate college or university after April 2004.
  • Covers travel to the UK, tuition fees at the overseas student rate, living allowance for 2-3 years

American Stafford Loans

  • Available to USA citizens to cover the cost of tuition fees and living expenses

Alßan Programme Scholarships

  • Available on a competitive basis to applicants from Latin America
  • Open to applicants for masters and PhD degrees
  • Covers a partial contribution to tuition fees and living allowance for up to 3 years
