Interpreting Stratigraphy
- Publications
Volumes of proceedings from Lincoln (1992), Edinburgh (1993), Norwich (1995) and York (1996) are currently available here as softcopy. Most are
now out of print but, if you want hardcopy of the Lincoln volume, it can still be obtained by contacting Steve Roskams at York (see Committee),
enclosing a cheque for £2.50 made payable to The University of York. It is hoped that subsequent conference publications will be hosted here at a
later date. Check the Help
page for details on accessing papers and volumes.

One of the main themes of
this session was the evolution of procedures for the post-excavation analysis
of large sites. Organisational comparisons between approaches to evaluation
and excavation in England and Scotland are made. Case studies examining
formation processes and their archaeological interpretations are presented,
along with some thoughts on terminology in recording.

The focus of this conference was
the stratigraphy of burials. The papers highlight the problems of recording
in-situ burials and disarticulated bone, establishing chronological
relationships between burials and reconstructing the sequence of events
of individual burials.
