Skeleton and coffin record

Before a cemetary is excavated historians and a human osteologist would be involved in order to consider the collection policy. Environmental samples would be taken. The archaeological record focuses on the obvious and descriptive part of the burial. The sensitive treatment of human remains should be born in mind and the special treatment of lead coffins (MoL 1994).

Apart from the code G for 'graves' and SK for 'skeleton' MoL uses no descriptive entry codes.
