The SCP method uses on its records (such as context sheets, plans and sections) one site code per site and one range of context numbers for the various trenches and all categories of contexts. Additional numbers are accessioned for finds and samples. Contexts are defined using a low level basic interpretation (Table 1) and no interpretative structure numbers (i.e. associating several contexts under a new number) are given on site. Associating contexts on a higher level of processual interpretation (such as linking parts into categories of construction, use and disuse) is done during later analysis. This section introduces the written record elements and their coding in preparation of analysis.
