Cath Neal

Project Manager

Profile

Cath joined the Department in March 2008 to work as the Heslington East Fieldwork Officer. Prior to this she was working as a Heritage Consultant for Atkins and completing her PhD, at York, examining the relationship between people and the environment on the Yorkshire Wolds, from a geoarchaeological perspective. Her varied archaeological interests primarily relate to fieldwork and specifically the use of fieldwork as a vehicle for experiential learning and to examine the relationship between theory and practice. Methodological interests include deposit modelling, environmental histories and the landscape scale of natural and human processes utilising a multidisciplinary approach.

Recent developments in community archaeology, allied to the site at Heslington East, have given Cath a focus in wider public participation agendas and the social and political milieu within which archaeological fieldwork and research is situated
