Profile

Biography

After finishing an undergraduate degree in Archaeology at the University of York in 2002, I began research into the battlefields of the Western Front, taking up an MA in Archaeology by Research at York in 2004. The MA was focused on developing a postprocessual battlefield archaeology on the Western Front, by incorporating a landscape perspective into the study and interpretation of the fields of conflict. This led to my doctoral research concerned with memory and archaeology, specifically the development of memory studies within the discipline, and the manner in which archaeology will impact upon the memory of the Western Front. Areas of interest away from my doctoral project include consumption, narratives, images, ethnohistory and the connections between archaeology, the occult and new-age mysticism. An interest in material culture studies has also encouraged research into eighteenth century society, Latourian theory and the nature of the relationship between people and things.
