The campus is about 1.5 miles (2.5 km) from the city centre, and there is a regular bus service (Route 4) from the Railway Station. Directions to the Heslington Campus may be found here. York is well served by rail from most parts of the UK, the service from London (King's Cross) usually taking less than 2 hours. The new Eurostar service from London (St Pancras) offers a connection to delegates from the near continent that is only a few minutes' walk from King's Cross. Manchester Airport probably offers the best opportunity to get to York by air - there is a regular rail service (1.5-2 hrs) from the airport direct to York station. Other airports in the region are at Newcastle (approx. 1 hour away by rail) and Leeds/Bradford.
If you are coming by road note that the University has a very strict policy with regard to car parking and operates a 'pay and display' system in all its car parks; you will need to pay to park (see charges) except between 6 pm and midnight on the Thursday and after 6 pm on the Friday (parking is then free until midnight on Sunday). Parking hangers (£3 per day) can be purchased when booking your accommodation.
The University's Economics Department has a very useful web site with all sorts of information and further details about travelling to York: link to Economics travel information
The conference will be held in the main part of Vanbrugh College ('Vanbrugh College' on the campus map, which also shows the nearby bus stop (B) on University Road).
Accommodation is also in Vanbrugh College, probably in Donald Barron Court or Barbara Scott Court.
The conference information desk, where you will register and can ask any questions, will be in the Foyer of Vanbrugh College (see location "R" towards bottom right on this map).
You may take a taxi from the train station (likely cost on a taximeter £7-8), but there is also the No. 4 bus from the train station to campus, which is a good, frequent service (link to timetable). There are also other bus services to the university campus (see bus section of Economics link above)
You may wish to wander around the city centre at some point during your visit. We highly recommend at least a visit to the Minster and walking around the city walls.
