Students With A Disability Or Ongoing Health Conditions

Disability Services: if your son or daughter has a disability and will need help to enable them to achieve their potential at university it is best to contact Disability Services as soon as you know York is their preferred destination, or earlier if they need information on their support needs, also visiting Disability Services on Open Days and at interview means you will be familiar with the staff and they will be aware of any potential needs.

Your son or daughter can choose to alert all the universities they apply to by noting their disability on their UCAS application. It is not advisable to hide any disability from the University. Undeclared disabilities can cause problems for your son or daughter and the university later on if the disability starts to impact on their ability to study or achieve their best in exams.

The University has a health centre on campus and all students are free to register and use the service. If ongoing health care is important to your child the facility can be seen when you come for an Open Day visit, or at interview. For students who are living some distance away from home should register with a GP Practice, and the University Health Centre is tailored towards the needs of the student population.
