Kaba Lock Reprogramming

During the weekend of 17th December 2011 the campus Kaba locks and car park barriers were reprogrammed so that they can be used with the new University Card (www.york.ac.uk/universitycard/). The old Kaba cards will cease to work and any that have been issued to non-University Card holders (e.g. contractors, some associates) will need to visit Hub reception to collect a new card from Monday 19th Dec 2011. Anyone experiencing difficulty in entering car parks with barriers during the switch-over will be allowed through by Security staff.

If you have not yet received your new University Card or had information on collecting it, please contact the Information Centre staff-card@york.ac.uk or visit the Information Centre, Market Square.

From week commencing 19th December 2011, car park barriers and building entrances using Kaba will only work with your University Card or a new access control card. If you have access to internal offices in these buildings, you will need to take your University Card to a reception desk to have it updated – this can be done any time from 19th December 2011. These will be at:

  • Alcuin
  • Biology
  • Physics
  • JBM library (Information Directorate staff only please)
  • Langwith College
  • TFTV
  • Ron Cooke Hub
  • Computer Science

You should return your old Kaba card to any reception desk.

If you also have accommodation in Goodricke College, you will continue to have a separate Kaba card to access your accommodation, but your existing Kaba card will have stopped working from the weekend of the 17th Dec 2011. You will need to visit the Hub Reception desk anytime after that to exchange your card for a new one.

If you have any queries please contact security-access@york.ac.uk.
