The Prime Minister has appointed Sir Ron Cooke a trustee of the National Museum of Science and Industry for a period of three years, it was announced today.
Professor Sir Ron Cooke, Vice Chancellor of the University of York since 1993, has been President of the Royal Geographic Society since 2000. He is a specialist in desert geomorphology and has a particular interest in human use of the natural environment. For his contributions to geomorphology he was awarded the Founder’s Medal of the Royal Geographic Society in 1994. He is also a member of the Higher Education Funding Council for England. He was knighted for services to higher education in January 2002.
The National Museum of Science and Industry incorporates the Science Museum in London, the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television in Bradford, the National Railway Museum in York and the Wroughton outstation in Wiltshire. The museum aims to promote public understanding of historical and contemporary practice of science, medicine, technology and industry.
