on the dotted line

During the 1990s, a pair of scissors appeared one morning on University road.

Scissors painted onto University road

"The incident happened around 1990 - a highly secretive group know nas the Alcuin Separatists' Movement had decided that they had had enough with the Student Union's meddling with the affairs of 'our side of the road', and so set about a campaign to sever all links between Alcuin and its surroundings, and the rest of the University. Amongst the campaigns was the scissor painting. I believe also that a giant letter 'A' was burned into the grass embankment where the old nucleus used to be, using weedkiller.

"The legacy of the Alcuin Separatists' Movement lives on to this day, with rumblings of disaffiliation with the SU, covert operations, and border controls constantly being bandied about. Talk of the People's Republic of Alcuin (PRA) can also be heard, particularly amongst those Alcuinites who fight for a corner of B Henry's cafe bar to have a drink in when it's full of staff from the Economics Department..."
