PRIZES ADMINISTERED BY THE PRIZES AND SCHOLARSHIPS COMMITTEE

Gladstone Memorial Prize

The Gladstone Memorial Prize (£300) is awarded annually for a long essay or project of exceptional quality which contributes to the final examination assessment of undergraduates in the Departments of Economics and Related Studies, History, History of Art and Politics, provided that such work either relates directly to Gladstone himself or any of his many fields of interests, which need not be confined to the period of Gladstone's own life - for instance, liberation theology, the Homeric world, or contemporary economic thinking and policy would all come within these terms of reference. Candidates for both single-subject and combined-subject degrees are eligible. The prize is made available by the Gladstone Memorial Trust.

Mike Pinson Bursary

The Pinson Bursary is designated to help individual students facing adversity to improve the quality of their University life. Precedence is given to students with a hearing impediment and to students from the Computer Science Department. Nominations may be made by the Manager of Disability Services and Boards of Studies. Nominees should be undergraduates in their second year of study on a three-year course, or second or third year of study on a four-year course.

K M Stott Memorial Prize

Kathleen Mary Stott Prizes are for excellence in scientific or medical research and are usually awarded for the best DPhil thesis or theses each year. At their discretion, departments may also make (smaller) awards to students before completion of a thesis (e.g. for the best upgrading reports, or for published papers). The departments currently entitled to award K M Stott Prizes are: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electronics, Environment, Health Sciences, Mathematics, Physics and Psychology.
