University Computing Committee (discontinued)

University Computing Committee has now been discontinued. A new committee, University IT Committee, will take its place and will hold its first meeting in June 2013.

Minutes

2011/12:

The University Computing Committee encompasses the role previously undertaken by the Departmental Computing Officers' Forum which has been discontinued (although the role of the Departmental Computing Officer will be maintained, as will the DCO mailing list which enables the DCOs to share information).

The University Computing Committee provides a forum for open discussion of strategic matters relating to the provision of computing facilities within the University, both centrally and departmentally. It is a sub-committee of the Information Strategy Group.

Normally the Committee meets once a term. Its membership is made up of the Head of IT Services and senior IT Services staff, a Chair drawn from the academic departments and centres, a representative from each department, and postgraduate and undergraduate student representatives.

This is an opportunity for you to share in policy-making decisions, to share good practice with colleagues from other departments¹, and to make suggestions for improvements in service provision². Minutes go to Information Strategy Group.

An email list, univ-computing-committee@lists.york.ac.uk, is available for members to communicate with the rest of the group.

¹ Including the Library and the major administrative departments, i.e. Registrar's, Finance, & Directorate of Facilities Management. In many cases it is anticipated that the Computing Committee representative will be the DCO; but it is important that those with strategic roles within departments are represented, and in some cases the DCO and chair of departmental computing committee or equivalent may both attend.

² Items of a more technical nature are dealt with by the DCOs discussion list, and the Infrastructure Forum.
