Information for tutors and supervisors

The University has recently approved the Student Employability Strategy for 2010-15, which you can download from here Employability Strategy 2010-15 (PDF  , 419kb)

  • referring students to the Careers Service : there is no formal process of referral. Students can call in and speak to a member of information staff during normal office hours; professional careers advisers are available daily for 20 minute consultations. Bookings for this service are made online via the Interactive Careers Service. Email enquiries can be made (via the Interactive Careers Service) by students and graduates who are unable to visit the Service
  • advice and guidance : members of Careers Service staff can advise supervisors by telephone or e-mail on handling career-related enquiries from supervisees; advice is also available on how to engage in personal development planning discussions with students
  • graduate destinations: the Careers Service analyses and reports on the destinations of leavers from the university, six months after graduation. See destinations data for individual subjects on the Your department student pages for more information

Services for departments

We offer a range of support to departments to help develop the employability skills of students. Activities are delivered centrally or within departments:

  • bespoke careers fairs
  • bespoke workshops on career planning, job hunting and application skills for undergraduate, postgraduate and research students
  • training for students preparing for and returning from work placements
  • labour market intelligence / employer links
  • recruitment and selection of temporary student employees.

Each academic department has a Careers Liaison Officer, who works with us to arrange department-specific support. Please contact your CLO  for further information.

Careers support for staff

We offer individual advice and support to research staff and students, who can contact us via e-mail or phone in the first instance. Careers appointments can be booked by research staff and students through the Interactive Careers Service.
